My mom has been belittling me a great deal in front of people. She is constantly criticizing my appearance, and when I correct her and I ask her not to say those things, she says that she is trying to help me and tells me "I have a devil on me". People say she is doing this because she is jealous of me because I achieved an education and that I am very pretty and fit. I just can't wrap my head around this, of why my mom would talk to me like this. I've noticed she likes to be the center of attention and when someone compliments me, that's when she starts insulting me. I've learned to not dress up a lot, and kind of hide... even though I know what she says is not true, I just can't wrap my head around it and it plays on my self-esteem. I am afraid to get married to my fiance because I know she is going to embarrass me because unfortunately the bride gets the attention by default and I know that will encourage her to insult me and yell at me. Please pray for me during this very difficult time. I sometimes want to get married alone, but my fiances family likes me and wants a wedding. I am afraid when they see my mom's behavior they will judge me.
