Family Dedication at Creekside Fulfills 4 Purposes:

1.  It is about parents publicly thanking God for the gift of their child. No doubt about it, children are an amazing gift that God has chosen to entrust to our care. Saying thank you in a public way like this really helps put God and our children in the right place.

2.  It is about publicly committing to raise your child in a way that will honour God. None of us is a perfect parent but we can be great parents. God wants to help and so do we. But often it starts with a decision to be committed to parenting God’s way. That’s what parents are saying when they dedicate themselves to parent at a Family Dedication Celebration.

3. It is about surrendering your child to God’s plan for their lives. We do not know what God may have in store for our kids but we do know that his plan is the best plan. Parenting with that in mind is so critical to great parenting. We go public with this one.

4. It is about inviting others to help you be the parent you want to be. We believe it takes a village to raise a child. Lots of people will contribute to the health of your child and one of the key ones is the church. This is a chance to ask the church for help and for the church to commit to serving you in your role as a parent.

At Creekside, we invite families who are interested in dedication to attend a parent class. Once they have completed this class, they can invite their family and friends to join them at the Family Dedication Event, which is held on a Saturday afternoon. This one-hour service is geared towards families and the commitment they are making.

FAQs

All children are welcome to participate in Family Dedication. It is not limited to babies.

What is the difference between baptism and dedication?

Some churches practice infant baptism. They pour water on the baby’s head during the ceremony to baptize them. Creekside does not baptize children but believes in following the Biblical example of parents bringing their children to God, to thank God for them, and to commit to raising them in a God honouring way.

How long is the parent/guardian class?

The class is about 20 minutes on a Sunday morning during one of the services.

What about god parents? Can they play a role in the Celebration?

If you would like to choose people to play a significant role in your child’s life, they are welcome to be a part of the dedication.

What is the cost for this?

There is no cost to participate in Family Dedication.

What if I am a single parent?

Single parents are welcome to participate in Family Dedication.

Can I invite my friends and family?

We encourage you to invite your family and friends to attend the Saturday Celebration Event. Please RSVP with the number of people you will be expecting so we can be prepared for them.

What if my spouse does not attend Creekside? Can I still dedicate my child?

Yes. If you are willing to commit to raising your child in a God honouring way, you can still dedicate your child even if your spouse does not attend Creekside.
